Cyprus · Limestone
also known as Cyprus Stone, Aphrodite Limestone, Lefkara Stone, Cyprus Cream
Cyprus has used its local calcarenite and chalk limestone for construction since antiquity: the medieval tower houses, Venetian walls of Nicosia, and traditional village churches are all built from Cypriot limestone. The stone from the Lefkara area and coastal outcrops is a porous, workable cream limestone similar in character to Globigerina from Malta or Faxe from Denmark. Cyprus is an EU member state since 2004, simplifying export documentation for European projects.

The Troodos Ophiolite is a spectacular geological formation of ancient ocean floor rocks (dark greens, blacks, serpentinites) exposed in the centre of Cyprus. Some operators offer ophiolitic stone for architectural use, but it is less systematically quarried than limestone. Contact Cypriot stone exporters for availability.
