Statuario is the rarest of the Carrara whites, quarried from a narrow band high in the Apuan Alps. Prized since antiquity for its tight, faintly translucent white ground and sharp grey veining — the marble of choice for sculpture.
Geology. Metamorphic marble (recrystallised Jurassic limestone), calcite-dominant; the decisive grey veining is graphite and iron along fracture planes.

Carved from a single block of Carrara statuario-grade marble.
In the Apuan Alps above Carrara, Tuscany, Italy — the same district as Calacatta and Bianco Carrara, but from rarer statuario-grade beds.
Statuario has a whiter, more uniform ground with finer, sharper grey veining; Calacatta tends to a warmer ground with bolder gold and grey movement. Statuario is rarer and priced accordingly.
