Calacatta Oro comes from a small number of quarries high in the Apuan Alps above Carrara, the same mountains worked since Roman times. The Calacatta family sits above ordinary Carrara white: brighter ground, bolder veining, and far smaller yields, which is why blocks are graded carefully and book-matching is planned slab by slab.
Geology. Metamorphic marble (recrystallised Jurassic limestone), calcite-dominant; the gold and grey movement is mineral oxide and accessory veining through a bright white ground.

In the Apuan Alps above Carrara, Tuscany, Italy, in a limited number of quarries, which is why availability and book-matching are constrained.
It is a marble: stunning but acid-sensitive and softer than quartzite. It is best honed and sealed for kitchens, or reserved for vanities and feature surfaces.
