Suetto Limestone

also known as Suetto Stone, Hungaro Limestone, Magyar Limestone

Quarried in the Danube Bend area of northern Hungary, Suetto limestone is a warm buff to ivory Eocene-era shell limestone that has built Central European cities for three centuries. Used in the Hungarian Parliament Building, Buda Castle, and countless Austro-Hungarian Baroque facades across Budapest, Vienna and Prague. Its uniform warm cream tone and excellent workability made it the premier Hungarian building stone.

Good to know

Is Suetto suitable for exterior use?

Yes, with appropriate sealing and detailing. The Hungarian Parliament Building (completed 1904) features Suetto limestone on its exterior. In freeze-thaw climates, select dense quarry grades and specify proper waterproofing at horizontal joints.
