Armenian Basalt

also known as Basalto Armenia, Gyumri Basalt, Armenian Volcanic Stone

Armenia's volcanic basalt from the Shirak plateau is formed from lava flows of the Armenian Highlands and is among the most durable natural stones available. Its dark charcoal-to-black tone, exceptionally high compressive strength, and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and salt make it ideal for heavy-traffic exteriors, retaining walls, hardscape and contemporary facade design.

Good to know

How durable is Armenian basalt?

Volcanic basalt is among the most durable stones on earth. Armenian basalt typically tests above 200 MPa compressive strength (vs ~120 MPa for granite), making it virtually maintenance-free for heavy-duty outdoor use.

Is it suitable for pool copings or coastal projects?

Yes — basalt is non-porous, salt-resistant, frost-resistant and slip-resistant in flamed or natural cleft finishes. An excellent choice for coastal pools, terraces and hardscape.
