Spain · Marble
also known as White Macael, Macael White
The celebrated white marble of Macael, quarried in the Sierra de los Filabres mountains of Andalusia for over 2,500 years. The Alhambra, the Alcázar and centuries of Moorish and Spanish Royal architecture were carved from it. Today it remains one of Spain's most recognised marbles: a consistent bright white with a fine crystalline structure excellent for detailed work.

Yes. Archaeological evidence places Macael extraction from at least the Phoenician era. The Romans quarried it extensively, and it is one of the few natural stones in continuous production from antiquity to the present day.
It is a pure white but with a crystalline, slightly warm tone rather than the sugar-bright white of Thassos. Its fine crystal structure makes it excellent for detailed carving and sculpture.
