Grigio Carnico

also known as Carnico Grey, Pietra di Carnia

A dense, dark-grey compact limestone from the Carnia valleys of northern Friuli. Its consistent cool-grey tone and fine grain have made it a favoured material for contemporary Italian architecture — indoor floors, exterior cladding and feature walls where a moody, refined dark palette is called for.

How dark is Grigio Carnico?

It is a medium-dark cool grey — not as dramatic as Nero Marquina or Toros Black, but darker and cooler than Bardiglio. Under polishing it shows subtle lighter crystalline movement against the grey matrix.

Can Grigio Carnico be used outside?

Yes. It is a dense, durable limestone and performs well as exterior cladding and paving in sheltered and moderate exposures.
