From the Karst plateau near Lipica, home of the famous Lipizzaner horses, this compact grey limestone has been quarried since Roman times. Known for its consistent warm-grey tone, low porosity and excellent workability, Lipica stone appears in the facades and floors of major institutions across Central Europe, from Vienna's Hofburg to Trieste's historic palaces.

They are geological cousins from the same Karst formation: Lipica is the Slovenian variant (Kras plateau), while Pietra d'Istria comes from the Croatian Istrian coast. Both are dense grey-beige limestones with very similar performance.
Lipica quarries offer commercial slabs up to 280x140 cm, with larger custom cuts available from block reserves.
