Italy · Gneiss
also known as Serizzo Antigorio, Serizzo Ossola, Serizzo Ghiandone
A quartzo-feldspathic gneiss from the Ossola and Valsesia valleys of Piedmont — one of the hardest and most durable Italian stones. Serizzo presents a cool silver-grey with subtle mica shimmer and faint foliation banding. Widely specified for exposed facades, Swiss and Italian alpine architecture, cladding panels, and demanding exterior paving where both aesthetics and structural integrity are required.
Type-level physical facts shown. Per-lot lab values (absorption, flexural strength) confirmed at quotation.
Very. Its gneissic structure gives it excellent freeze-thaw resistance and compressive strength, making it one of the preferred stones for alpine facades and Swiss-Italian architectural projects.
The main commercial varieties are Serizzo Antigorio (grey, most common), Serizzo Ghiandone (coarser grained, with larger feldspar crystals), and Serizzo Formazza (darker, more uniform). All share the same core grey-silver character.
