Untersberger Marble

also known as Untersberger Marmor, Untersberg Grey-Green, Hellbrunn Stone

Quarried on the Untersberg massif straddling the Austrian-Bavarian border, this pale grey-green marble has been the decorative stone of Salzburg and Munich since the 17th century. It marks Mozart's grave in St Sebastian's Church, lines the entrance halls of Schoenbrunn Palace and was used extensively in Vienna's Kunsthistorisches Museum. Its cool, silvery tone pairs well with both historic ornament and contemporary minimalism.
